Litwiller Trip to Hawaii - Touring around the Island

A tourbus to take us around the island

Colorful trees and chickens at the Dole Pineapple Plantation. The tourbus driver said he never wanted to taste another pineapple again.

Waiting in the heat for the Pineapple Express to take us through the plantation.

Pineapple bushes shown here, but plenty of other tropical plants on the plantation too, like cacao, banana, lychee, and mango

Delicious pineapple ice-cream

Lookout over Oahu

One afternoon we struck out for a hike on Waimano Trails. This trail has ups and downs, tropical foliage, dense canopies, mud and wetness, and unusual bird calls

The trail is especially interesting because it has a bunch of tunnels formed from lava moving through and leaving behind (slightly creepy) tubes.

USS Arizona, a battleship that was sunk during the attack on Pearl Harbor, remains as a memorial

Hundreds of people got trapped as the battleship sank and sadly could never be rescued.
