Chicks

 The post office called Dan on Wednesday morning to let him know we had received our very special package. We carefully planned out all our coop and outdoor space for FIVE chickens. But it seems I also checked the box for "meal maker" on the website, which I thought was chicken vitamins or something because it was free. Nope. A meal maker is an extra chick that they give you if you are willing to grow them up and give away eggs or their meat to a hungry family somewhere. Whoops. 

We ordered the chickens from Meyer Hatchery in Ohio.  They had a really nice selection of chicks but, most importantly, they sold day-old chicks that were already sexed. We don't really want to end up with a rooster, especially since we aren't allowed to keep those. Buffy = Golden buff, Bunny = Easter egger, Bertha = Lakeshore egger, Queenie = Green Queen, Ziki and Zazu = Black copper marans

 

Sleepy chickies. These little guys will fall asleep anywhere - including in their food.
